There’s a new person behind the mayor’s chair in Oliver.

With a voter turnout of 56.5 per cent, newcomer Martin Johansen won the seat at Saturday’s municipal election with 879 votes, compared to incumbent Mayor Ron Hovanes’ 719.

Johansen will be joined by council members Larry Schwartzenberger (913), Dave Mattes (1,076), Petra Veintimilla (1,217) and newcomer Aimee Grice (889).

Rick Machial (251) will remain as water councillor and he will be joined by Parminder Sidhu (256).

In regional district Area C, Rick Knodel will be director. Knodel took 629 votes compared to contender Randy Toor’s 373.

Councillor Maureen Doerr had 778 votes and Dermott Hutton had 748.

Water councillor hopeful David Machial had 204 votes and current water councillor Andre Miller had 145.
