The new Osoyoos fire hall project is now expected to come in under budget, town administration told council Monday.

The amount the project will be under its projected cost has yet to be determined, Jim Zakall, director of financial services said in his report.

This information was contained in a background document for a bylaw that allows the town to borrow temporarily up to $5 million for construction until all costs are accounted for and long-term debenture financing can be arranged in spring 2017.

The total budget for the fire hall is $6.6 million, and funds are also coming from the Osoyoos Rural Fire Protection District and a gas tax grant.

Coun. C.J. Rhodes called attention to the fact that the project is under budget.

“Always great news,” he said.
