A new regional association aimed at helping to empower and strengthen the Okanagan manufacturing sector has been launched.
The Okanagan Manufacturing Network (OKMN) was created to connect local companies, share knowledge and strengthen one of the region’s most vital sectors which it says is composed of more than 750 manufacturers operating from Osoyoos to Salmon Arm.
“Manufacturing is a cornerstone of the Okanagan economy, but many businesses face challenges in isolation,” said Alex Greer, President of OKMN. “By creating this network, we’re giving manufacturers a place to connect, collaborate and grow together.”
With no single platform uniting these manufacturers, the OKMN is seeking to fill that void and in so doing offer networking, educational opportunities and events that showcase the talent of Okanagan manufacturers.
“The timing couldn’t be better,” added Neil Perry, Owner of Wayside, a Vernon-based manufacturer specializing in signage, printing, tech solutions and mail.
“We’re facing workforce shortages, supply chain issues and growing competitive pressures. Having a local network where manufacturers can share ideas, find local suppliers and solve problems together is a huge win for the region.”
The OKMN received funding and support from The Economic Trust of the Southern Interior (ETSI BC), the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission (COEDC), and regional public and private partners.
Local manufacturers, economic development professionals and supporters can connect with OKMN at okmn.ca . Free membership is currently being offered during the OKMN’s “foundational phase,” it said adding this was made possible by the local and regional partners.
The association has indicated it has a full slate of events planned for early 2026 to “build momentum and deliver value for local manufacturers”. These include Grand Opening Mixers in Kelowna, Vernon and Okanagan Falls to celebrate the launch of OKMN:
- Jan. 29 – Kelowna at Vitalis;
- Feb. 5 – Vernon at KingFisher Boats;
- Feb. 11 – Okanagan Falls at Unit Electric.
A four-part educational series covering lean manufacturing, AI applications, hiring practices and developing a pivot strategy kicks off on Feb. 24.
