A wide swath from Mt. Baldy Ski Resort extending east as far as Conkle Lake Provincial Park has been placed under Evacuation Order by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB).

A result of the ongoing Nk’Mip Creek wildfire, the RDKB says it has been advised of the “imminent danger of an interface wildfire to the life and property,” of persons resident or present in Electoral Area E/ West Boundary.

The area includes the Mt. Baldy resort, the west side of Fish Lake West Road, Belchrome FSR and Conkle Lake Provincial Park. This comprises 126 properties with an estimated 20-30 year-round homes at Mt. Baldy with an overall population of about 50 people.

Residents are required to leave the affected areas immediately and vacate the area by using local roads.

The RDKB says if this is a primary residence, and evacuees are not able to stay with friends or family, they should check in with emergency support services at the Boundary Expo Recreation Centre at 743 Seventh Avenue, Midway.

The RCMP, and Search and Rescue, and local fire departments will be expediting this action in these areas on behalf of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary.
