Teams will be coming from throughout the Okanagan Valley and as far as North Vancouver when the Osoyoos International Curling Club hosts its annual men’s bonspiel this Friday to Sunday.
Drew Bolokoski, organizer of the event, said last year’s bonspiel attracted 28 teams, and this year’s event is already at the 20-team mark.
“If we can get to the 24 mark, we’ll be really happy with that,” Bolokoski said.
Draw times will start around 5 p.m. on Friday with at least three draws that evening.
The event continues all day Saturday, and then quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will be held Sunday. Finals will start sometime in the early afternoon, depending on the number of teams involved.
All teams are guaranteed at least three games, with winning teams staying in the A draw and losing teams dropping to the B and C draw.
Saturday evening will offer live entertainment featuring local musician and singer Cindy Doucette.
Although many of the people watching the event are typically participants, Bolokoski said others from the community are welcome to come out and watch and to support the event.
“It’s a nice social event for the town,” he said.
The Osoyoos Ladies Bonspiel is planned for February 8 – 10 and the Junior Elks Bonspiel is set for March 2.
