McKinney Place in South Okanagan General Hospital is no longer experiencing a respiratory illness outbreak.
McKinney Place residential care facility has been cleared of a respiratory illness outbreak.
Respiratory illness is fever over 38 degrees and a cough.
The facility in South Okanagan General Hospital did experience a respiratory outbreak (declared on December 30), but it was declared over on January 8, according to Interior Health.
During the outbreak, McKinney Place had signs up at the front entrance to advise people of the situation, requesting visitors to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer – both of which were provided.
Interior Health has a website that lists residential care facilities that have respiratory outbreaks.
Interior Health says an outbreak is declared when two or more cases of respiratory illness occur in a unit/facility within a seven-day period among staff or residents.
When a facility has an outbreak admissions are typically restricted to prevent new, vulnerable people from being exposed to the virus.
