A male was issued a violation ticket for starting a small fire just south of Oliver on Tuesday night.

Firefighters were called to a small blaze on the side of Highway 97 after 6 p.m. to deal with a fire.

Fire department spokesman Rob Graham said no damage was caused by the scorching that was four feet by four feet in size.

Sergeant Blaine Gervais from the Oliver RCMP said they suspect the fire was caused by a discarded cigarette. He noted that a ticket was issued under the Wildfire Act.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s grass fire off Black Sage Road is still under investigation, with no known cause at this time, Graham said.

The fire burned approximately three-quarters of a hectare, but did not impact any structures in the Harmony Crescent neighbourhood.
