A young man from Quebec has learned that helping out someone in distress doesn’t always make you a hero.
On March 5 the Oliver RCMP was called to Canadian Tire to deal with an intoxicated female.
Upon her arrest for being intoxicated in public, a male intervened and attempted to free the woman, said Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth.
The 20-year-old male was subsequently arrested for obstruction. Both he and the female were held in detachment cells until sober.
Wrigglesworth said the male was later released as well as the female of no fixed address. The female was not charged.
In total, the Oliver RCMP responded to 45 calls for service between March 4-7. One involved a report of shots fired on Osoyoos Indian Band land, but an investigation determined the noise was related to fireworks.
The other call was a suspected arson of an unoccupied building off Co-Op Avenue (behind the food bank).
Wrigglesworth said police gathered evidence on scene for forensic analysis.
Other calls that weekend included domestic reports, fights, and traffic complaints.
