A 45-year-old man from Trail who was arrested last week in Kamloops has been charged with breaking and entering the Dairy Queen in Osoyoos and RCMP believe he’s also responsible for recent break and enters at the local Tim Horton’s and Subway restaurants.
The man remains in custody in Kamloops pending a scheduled court appearance in that city some time this week.
“This arrest confirms our belief that these crimes at these local establishments were committed by transients passing through town,” said Cpl. Jason Bayda of the Osoyoos RCMP.
The accused is charged with break, enter and theft charges in relation to a recent incident at the Dairy Queen restaurant in Osoyoos and numerous other charges relating to other incidents in Kamloops.
No charges filed after rollover
The owner of a 1997 Acura two-door sedan from Burnaby was involved in a rollover on Hwy. 3 on Anarchist Mountain the afternoon of Jan. 27.
RCMP officers in Osoyoos were called after a a single vehicle rollover was reported.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle in the ditch on its roof, but the driver was nowhere to be seen.
The owner of the vehicle contacted officers the following day and reported that the road was extremely foggy at the time of the incident and he had swerved to avoid hitting a deer and ended up losing control of the vehicle and landing in the ditch.
The man did not suffer any injuries and no charges will be filed.
Police looking for driver
RCMP officers are attempting to find the driver of a vehicle that crashed through a fence at the Mission Hill # 19 vineyards on 146th Avenue in Osoyoos.
RCMP officers received a call on Jan. 26 stating that the fence had been damaged some time over the weekend and the gate had been hit with enough force to knock it off its moorings on the ground.
There were no witnesses and police don’t know what kind of vehicle was involved in this incident.
Canada Post office boxes broken into
During the evening of Jan. 26, several Canada Post office boxes were broken into on Tamarack Drive in Osoyoos. The mailboxes were ripped open and all of the mail was removed from the boxes.
