Police have confirmed that a 40-year-old male was arrested on Monday after he allegedly lit some bushes on fire near the A&W restaurant on Main Street.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. when some bushes surrounding a transformer erupted in flames.

Firefighters had to wait until FortisBC shut off the power before they could extinguish the blaze.

Sergeant Blaine Gervais from the Oliver RCMP said damage to the property was estimated at $500.

The accused will appear in court in January to answer to charges of arson and causing a disturbance.
