Dear Editor:
I read with wonderment about the plight of the Osoyoos Airport in a recent edition of the Osoyoos Times.
We have lived in Osoyoos for 16 years and it seems every couple of years the status of the airport surfaces.
Back awhile ago, I was somewhat pleased to read town council was considering offering airport lands for sale, which would have been a good move in my mind.
It would be nice to have an airport within 20 minutes of driving time because that is the time it takes me to get to the Oliver Airport.
There are not too many towns of any size where you can access an airport in less than 20 minutes.
To have what constitutes the Osoyoos Airport at the current time remain open would benefit the hobbyist.
I have a hobby also, but I do not expect exemptions from the Town for support.
This is, in my mind, a selfish move. If the property was used for private business, many could benefit, not an elite few.
This would not only aid business, churches, sports, etc., but it would also help with school enrolment.
Town council were well behind the save our school movement, but overlooked the use of this property for industry.
A gentleman named Glen Harris has been interviewed about his opinion recently as it pertains to the Osoyoos Airport.
I have read the Osoyoos Times for many years, but I have never seen his name before and there has been no mention of his contributions of any nature.
We are all the same if some thing benefits a community financially or publicly, we put our shoulder to the wheel.
Land is so scarce in Osoyoos that I think expanding the Osoyoos Airport is an extreme luxury.
