The Town of Osoyoos is jumping on the bandwagon, asking local residents to make submissions to try and help write a community themed song.
“I think it’s pretty neat … how great would it be to have our own town song?” asked Mayor Stu Wells after it was announced last week that all area residents are invited to submit ideas about creating a new town song.
As announced on CBC Radio last week, towns across Canada will have the opportunity to win a free theme song that will “put your community on the map in an unforgettable way.”
Anyone with a good idea and bit of musical flair is being asked to help create a catchy tune that is unique, memorable and one that celebrates the best aspects of this town and lets the world know how great Osoyoos is, said Wells.
A catchy theme song could help stimulate tourism, attract new business development, inspire community spirit and pride, become a branding tool for the town and tell the world what makes this town remarkable, he said.
The District of Vanderhoof recently had a new town theme song unveiled and it has created quite the buzz.
“I would like to thank all of those who contributed and sung our new song for the first time, but it doesn’t end there. The ‘Heart of it All’ will be used to promote Vanderhoof for many years to come,” said Gerry Thiessen, Mayor of the District of Vanderhoof.
Those interested can send an email detailing why they love living in their town, what makes it special and unique, what is the town’s claim to fame and how and where they would like to see the town’s song used.
The email should not be any longer than 250 words.
“Be as convincing as you can. How could having a catchy and memorable song that touches hearts and taps toes impact your community?” asked Lowry Olafson, who is running the contest.
All email entries should be sent to [email protected] by midnight on December 2.
