And the winner is.
The Auctioneers Association of British Columbia held its annual meeting and competition in Campbell River, B.C. October 22 to 24. The competition invites auctioneers from all over the province to compete in a live auction.
Some call them motor-mouths, however, going into a competition of this calibre, each competitor is judged on clarity “ how well others can understand his number increments, on how well the auctioneer can interact with and catch the bids from the audience, and on how the auctioneer conducts himself, looking at the sale, his poise, respect and appearance.
Businesses from Campbell River as well as from across B.C. donated items for the live auction, with proceeds donated to the local Food Bank and Salvation Army. A huge crowd was on hand for the event held Sunday afternoon, October 24 with some fabulous new and used items up on the block. The crowd was entertained to say the least by all the different auctioneers but things became tense when the judges selected the three finalists who returned to the auction block to compete.
Merlin Wimmer of Osoyoos was then selected as the 2005 B.C. Open Champion Auctioneer.
Merlin became an auctioneer in 2001 and opened his family owned and operated business Raemer Auctions Ltd. at that time. Merlin first won the Championship for the B.C. Novice division in 2002 and has now, three years later, gone on to win the Championship in the Open division.
Raemer Auctions Ltd. is open for consignments and sales from their building in Osoyoos and can be reached by calling (250) 495-4480. Merlin is also available for on-site sales such as farm, business, antique, miscellaneous, estate auctions and more.
