An earthquake measuring an estimated 4.0 magnitude Osoyoos and Oliver Saturday morning at 9:16 a.m.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) says the earthquake was centred east of Oliver and was felt from Lake Country south and east as far as Bridesville. There have been no reports of damage, and an earthquake this size would not be expected to cause damage. Its depth was estimated at one kilometre.

NRCAN has revised its location to 49.21 N, 119.24 W, which is just north of Mount Baldy.

An earthquake ranging from 4.0 to 4.9 is classed as “light” and will be felt by most people. It would cause noticeable shaking of indoor objects and a rattling noise, but generally causes no damage or only minimal damage.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was also experienced at weak to light intensity in northern Washington State. The USGS reports the intensity at 4.2 and the depth at 5 km, which differs from the figures used by NRCAN.

This story will be updated with further details when available.
