I am writing regarding the urgent need to stop fracking in BC.
Fracking for gas produces methane, a greenhouse gas that traps 86 times as much heat as carbon dioxide. It’s responsible for about one quarter of global warming.
We have seen our share of climate disasters including the heat dome of 2021, yearly wildfires and unprecedented snowfall caused by pollution from fracking.
Gas is a fossil fuel, just as bad as coal and oil for our climate.
The number one job of government is to keep people safe. In this era of climate change, that means ending fracking as soon as possible. The province needs to stop issuing permits for new gas wells immediately and cancel its proposed liquefied “natural” gas plants.
Our citizens need to know that using gas appliances adds pollution to their homes, even when they’re turned off.
Please join me in urging our government to abolish new gas wells, LNG plants and building hook-ups and offer incentives to help us all quit gas.
We have everything we need to make the transition off fossil fuels except the political will.
