Changes are definitely needed in how this country is governed
If one thing is clear from the recent federal election, it's that people do not want another election.
Despite electing a minority government, people across Canada have been quite clear in saying they don't want to be heading back to the polls any time soon.
Politicians should heed that message, which is essentially to make this new government work.
That, however, won't be easy, as all of the four main parties bring strength to the table. How this four-party government will work is anyone's guess. The fact that it might not work at all is definitely a real issue. However, sending Canadians back to the polls right away could prove very costly for those responsible.
There is another way to look at this minority government.
One of the main problems with the Canadian system of government is that, except for at election time, Canada is essentially run as a dictatorship.
Under a minority government, no one party, or person (Prime Minister) can ram through legislation without selling it to everyone at the table.
One of the biggest complaints has been government's willingness to put its party's interests above that of the country's. Hopefully under this minority government that selfish agenda will be stopped.
Change isn't always bad, and it is hard to argue with the fact that this country needs changes in how it is governed.
