Dear Editor:

I read C.J. Rhodes’ rant with mixed emotions (Osoyoos Times, Oct. 24).

He is well within his rights to criticize people who don’t vote, but there may be reasons that people abstain. I don’t think my wife and I are naïve. We have a decent handle on community events and of course the many signs were obvious, but we missed the voting time and day.

My wife and I expected a November date, and by chance a gal at the Credit Union asked had we voted and we went and did our civic duty.

C.J., it is not that people have no interest. It is because all the nominees with the exception of two, who for sure will not be elected, are all worthy of the position.

The voting polls are designed for rapid movement as humanly possible, but for us 90 year olds the questions however necessary seem frivolous.

From voting in a one-room schoolhouse supervised by one person who gives you a ballot and you go to the corner and mark an X to the custom necessary in today’s world is quite different.

I had sent my care card and driver’s license for renewal and my identification was scanty. This caused quite a stir that was resolved just before I had made the decision to leave.

Television discontinuing channel 18 and then channel 10 make gathering information hard for us folks that don’t read posters.
