Dear Editor:
I’m writing this in response to the recent letter that appeared in the Osoyoos Times under the headline, “Desire for a healthy and peaceful life.” (Aug. 9)
This is a desire which many of us in this beautiful valley share.
That was a lovely headline to a somewhat disturbing letter.
Dr. Maurice Hilleman, whom the letter writer refers to, was a giant in the field of vaccination and is revered by virtually all for his work in fighting many diseases which have killed millions of people.
The writer of the letter refers the reader to YouTube videos in which Dr. Hilleman is admitting that many vaccines were administered to children for the nefarious purpose of population control.
These videos show still photos of the doctor with dialogue in the background which is purported to be his voice.
However, if you quickly search your computer or smartphone using Google, it will bring up many other stories about Dr. Hilleman.
Most all of the articles you will find describe him as a pioneer and a brilliant, caring scientist.
The YouTube videos referred to by the letter writer have been presented as factual by various alt-right websites like InfoWars and others with anti-vaccination leanings.
There are other points the letter writer makes, like how all life may die soon and that there are great forces are working against us all.
But in regards to our “desire for a healthy and peaceful life”, many of us have this already.
And it’s thanks to people like Dr. Maurice Hilleman.
Thanks to people that work hard every day to make this a better world. No thanks to the conspiracy theorists of the world.
