Wherever help is needed in Oliver, George Karpinsky is sure to be there.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native and his wife Diane relocated to Oliver 33 years ago and have been doing good things for others ever since.

So when their friend Dorothy Smith heard about Shreddies “Search for Goodness,” she immediately thought of the couple and George has made it into the top five.

The campaign, launched in 2011 by the iconic cereal label, encourages people to nominate someone in their community who goes above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others. The Karpinskys designate a section of their garden to grow food for the Oliver food bank.

Shreddies reviews the nominations and shortlists five genuinely good people and their stories. Then, Canadians are asked to vote on the story they believe should be shared across the country.

Each person will be featured with a voting page that will include his or her story. The selected story will be announced in March and will be told in a Shreddies’ national television spot.
