The Rust Wine family has expressed its grief over the loss of their “beloved friend and general manager, Kane Morgan.”

On his way home to Summerland from the winery located south of Oliver, Morgan was involved in a motor vehicle accident last Friday, December 8 just after 5 p.m. near Kaleden.

He was “Rust Wine Co. employee number one,” the winery said, noting he had been involved in the construction of the winery from the ground up.

“He created one of the most remarkable and hospitable environments in the entire Canadian wine industry, leaving an indelible professional and personal legacy,” the winery wrote.

In 2021, Kane and his family began the development of their family farm in Summerland, the Rust wine family continued. This included the planting of what Kane would call “Revelation Vineyard,” a project which “encompassed not only the family’s wine growing efforts but the holistic operation of the farm, largely informed by Kane’s extensive philosophical writings and overall outlook on existence.”

They go on to highlight that “anyone who had the privilege of knowing him would have experienced his unbounded hospitality, sincerity, and humour. They would have understood immediately that he was not a common man.

“Kane was a truly exceptional person in every facet of his life, from his superb intellect and way with words to his dedication to his family both immediate and extended, to his voracious commitment to living a truly full and remarkable life that touched everyone around him in a deep and meaningful way.”

Kane leaves behind his wife, Jaki, and their two boys, Cassius and Walker.

“It is our familial duty at this time to support Kane’s family and work to carry on his legacy,” the winery said.

Anyone who has been impacted by Kane in even the smallest way is invited to offer their condolences and donations for the Morgan family will be accepted through Rust’s sister winery, Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery.
