Hammer’s House of Hog in Oliver is moving after receiving notice from the new owners of Bel Air Cedar Resort to vacate the property.

A loyal customer of Hammer’s notified the Chronicle about the eviction notice and wanted people to be aware of what was going on.

David Lucas expressed his concern for House of Hog proprietor Sam Tibbitt.

“He has a short season to make a living and l have a problem with others taking away a man’s ability to make a living.”

Tibbitt said the new property owners have decided to do some landscaping to increase curb appeal, and Hammer’s is not part of it.

Tibbitt admitted the eviction notice came as a shock, but he has no ill feelings towards the property owners. He noted it’s their property and they are free to do what they want with it.

But when one door closes, another one opens.

Tibbitt said word spread quickly and he subsequently received a visit from a local business wanting to “team up” on a new location for Hammer’s. Tibbitt hopes to be operating at the new venue by early June.

His last day at Bel Air is May 28.

Lucas said he’s confident Hammer’s new location will be better than ever.

On Hammer’s Facebook page, another support said the eviction was a real shame and their (Bel Air’s) loss.

“Wherever you go a lot of your customers will follow you, including myself,” she said.

The new owners of Bel Air motel could not be reached for comment.
