Dear Editor:

The Desert Valley Hospice Society’s recent Celebration of Caring Hands at Frank Venables Theatre was an enormous success raising over $17,000.

The outpouring of support from community members, businesses and supporters from Osoyoos and Oliver is overwhelming and we are sincerely thankful for the generosity of so many.

It is impossible to personally thank everyone who made the event such a success. To everyone who helped in so many different ways please know that your support is a loving and caring gift. Whether you donated your favourite baking item, a beautiful basket of wine and delicacies, a product from your business, a cash donation, your time or your attendance, together we celebrated and supported the work of the Hospice Society.

By supporting DVHS you are helping us to expand and deliver hospice programs by our trained and dedicated hospice volunteers.

These special people are at the heart of all we do. Their dedication to bring comfort and dignity to those facing the final chapter of life and to help them experience a good death is remarkable. These volunteers are supported by our health care professionals as we work towards our common goals to support excellence in the provision of hospice palliative care and end of life services.

Please know we will continue to advocate for increased service and hospice beds knowing that everyone deserves the right to die with dignity, pain free and surrounded by their loved ones in a setting of their choice.

As we approach the Christmas season and all its festivities please celebrate the importance of life and honour the memory of our loved ones who have passed.

Celebrate the many, many caring and generous people in our communities who make a difference every day helping others in need.

Thank you.

Janet Shaw, President
