The regional district board endorsed a project to identify existing heritage sites throughout the region and define future directions.
The $56,850 contract was awarded to Denise Cook Design. It is expected that the final project report will be delivered to the board by late spring 2014.
In other news, the regional district will continue to participate in a three-party agreement to fund visitor information services and tourism initiatives at the Oliver Visitor Centre.
Both the regional district and Town of Oliver will pay $28,000 per year for three years beginning in 2014.
The regional district’s funding is shared between the Town of Oliver and Area C taxpayers as a joint service.
The regional board gave third reading to a bylaw that would regulate the use of private residences as short-term vacation rentals.
The bylaw requires property owners to apply for a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) in order to offer their residences as vacation rentals.
The property would be required to meet a set number of conditions before the TUP would be granted. The RDOS receives numerous complaints about vacation rentals, including noise and increased traffic and parking.
