The province reports there are now four COVID-19 cases related to Krazy Cherry Fruit Company in Oliver.

Health teams continue to support staff and employees impacted by COVID-19 at Krazy Cherry Fruit Company in Oliver.

Today, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed there are four cases of the virus associated with the farm.

She also reported that one Site C camp worker in Fort St. John is in isolation after contracting the virus.

And there are now 35 cases associated with the outbreak in Kelowna, Henry pointed out.

In total, there are 235 cases in the Interior Health region, she reported. In B.C., the total number is now 3,198.

No new deaths have been reported in the province, and more than 2,800 people in B.C. have fully recovered from COVID-19.

Henry said one new outbreak has been reported in a care unit at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.

Henry noted the outbreak in Kelowna is a more concerning issue, adding they are anticipating case numbers to increase.

“Once you have been exposed there is nothing we can do to prevent you from developing a disease,” she pointed out.

She stated that a plan is underway with Kelowna’s mayor to address the outbreak.

“These flareups are a concern. It’s a warning to us that we need to do more to keep things in balance,” Henry said.

She said many of the cases in Kelowna have impacted people in their 20s and 30s, who contracted the virus via social events that they attended.

Henry is imploring the public to be her voice in sharing her message with friends to “make sure that we don’t let COVID steal our summer.”

People can socialize, but it must be done safely, she said. For example, if you are hosting a party, you have an obligation to keep the gathering small.

She advised that hosts should know everyone at the gathering and recommended that a contact list be kept.
