Dear Editor:

Our 11-year-old grandson was visiting us recently and asked us, “Why are people riding their bikes in Osoyoos when they are not wearing their helmets?”

Where he lives in Victoria, you get a ticket by the police if you are not wearing your bike helmet.

Is it not against the law everywhere in B.C. to not wear a bike helmet? Another thing our grandson pointed out to us was seeing so many people disobeying the sign on the bridge, when it clearly states, “No jumping into the lake.”

Yet we all know that this happens every single day during the summer months and nothing is done about this. There have been a few incidents this summer where people were jumping into the lake and boaters have been injured. It doesn’t say much for authority when a young boy points out the blatant disregard for laws and nothing gets done to stop it from happening.
