Emergency services responded to an accident in Oliver on Saturday, Oct. 28 at about 4 p.m. involving a cyclist and a motor vehicle.
The cyclist was taken to the hospital with a bloodied forehead and an eyewitness on the scene said the cyclist appeared “wobbly”.
RCMP Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth said Oliver RCMP attended the accident and spoke with the driver who stated she was driving southbound down Tucelnuit Road and intended to turn right on Bulrush Road when she saw a cyclist coming up quickly behind her.
She went on to explain that she braked because she wasn’t going to turn right with the cyclist behind her and the cyclist crashed into the back of her vehicle.
The cyclist, a 51-year-old Oliver resident, was taken to the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver with a head injury. He was wearing a helmet.
According to the police report, he didn’t remember what happened but was conscious. Alcohol was ruled out as a contributing factor.
Wrigglesworth added that the cyclist’s bike had been redesigned to run on gasoline and as such it’s unknown exactly how fast he was going. No charges have been laid against either party.
