If all goes according to plan, there could be a few new food options in Osoyoos before the May long weekend.
Town council adopted a business licence amendment bylaw at their meeting on April 15 that includes an updated list of where street food vendors are allowed in Osoyoos.
Council also recently approved a revised Street Food Vendor Selection and Approval Policy that streamlines the application process for street food vendors wanting to open in Osoyoos.
There are already three applicants that are “very serious” and town staff are working with, director of Planning and Development Services Gina MacKay told council. They include a Thai ice cream truck, a mini donut truck and a Portuguese pulled pork vendor.
“We’re actually working on those proposals right now and two of them look like they’re going to be in place very, very quickly possibly before May long weekend,” MacKay said.
Mayor Sue McKortoff asked if vendors can change locations once they have obtained a business licence.
No, MacKay told her. “Once they’ve selected a location that location has been identified for them and their use.”
And what if there’s more than one vendor eyeing a location?
“It’s a first come first serve process,” MacKay said.
