Cherry Bomb Sandwiches

Che-Che-Che Cherry Bomb!

A few months ago, I introduced readers to Cherry Bomb Sandwiches and owner Logan Ferreira, whose Portuguese-inspired sandwiches immediately became one of my favourite discoveries in the South Okanagan.

At the time, I joked that when I hear “Cherry Bomb,” my mind no longer goes to Joan Jett and The Runaways – it goes straight to smoked pork, fresh buns, and piri piri sauce powerful enough to make a grown man emotional.

Well, several months and several repeat visits later, I can confidently say the honeymoon phase is over . . . and the sandwiches are still spectacular.

That’s important because the true test of any restaurant or food business isn’t the first visit. Anybody can impress someone once. The real challenge is consistency. Can they keep delivering the same quality after the excitement of opening fades? Can they maintain standards when business gets busy, equipment breaks, suppliers change, and exhaustion kicks in? Cherry Bomb Sandwiches continues to pass that test.

Why am I doing a “Rewind” on Cherry Bomb? Because, like many of the articles I wrote in the early months of 2025, half the population was still “snowbirding” down south. I continually get suggestions to go try restaurants I have already written about, and it reminds me that this could be the first time someone has ever read my column. Maybe they just moved here, or maybe they’re only visiting for a couple of days.

For that reason, I’m going to revisit some of my favourite restaurants from last year, just so nobody can use the excuse, “There’s nowhere to eat.”

With that said, Logan at Cherry Bomb was so appreciative of the community support and everyone who visited after my first article that he came up with a special sandwich just for this recap. Starting Friday, May 29th, you can head to Cherry Bomb Sandwiches and order the “Sheldon’s Food Adventure Sandwich.”

Logan was kind enough to let me help design a sandwich that highlights his skills as a BBQ smoker while combining flavours and textures that work perfectly together. “Sheldon’s Food Adventure Sandwich” starts with Logan’s smoked BBQ brisket, drizzled with tangy barbecue sauce and topped with a generous serving of homemade coleslaw to add freshness and crunch while balancing the rich, tender brisket.

The sandwich won’t be around forever, though, so make sure you try it before it goes the way of the dodo bird.

The best compliment I can give Cherry Bomb Sandwiches is simple: I keep going back. Not because I’m reviewing it. Not because I “have to.” I go back because I genuinely crave the food, and in the restaurant world, there’s no stronger endorsement than becoming part of someone’s regular rotation.

So if you still haven’t stopped by Cherry Bomb Sandwiches in Oliver, fix that mistake immediately. And if you already have, go back again and try the special “Sheldon’s Food Adventure Sandwich.” Odds are you’re probably craving it already anyway, and I assure you it won’t disappoint.

And when you do visit, tell Logan that Sheldon sent you.

You can find Cherry Bomb Sandwiches at their food trailer at Road 13 Vineyards in Oliver on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at their regular location next to the BC Liquor Store (across from No Frills) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 4. p.m. to 7 p.m. for dinner.
