Oliver firefighters were “requested” to leave an outdoor burn site late this morning on the Osoyoos Indian Band Reserve.

Fire official Rob Graham said they responded to a burn complaint off Black Sage Road. Once they arrived, firefighters were “requested” to leave the area by the property owner.

“Not wanting any escalation between the OIB member and fire crews, we left the scene,” Graham said.

The burn was reportedly in the same general location as previous burns that firefighters were called out to. A couple of these previous burns were left unattended.

Fire Chief Bob Graham told the Times Chronicle they were basically informed that this is OIB land and not to put the fire out and “go away.”
