A 31-year-old father from Chilliwack drowned in Osoyoos Lake on Tuesday.

Osoyoos RCMP Sgt. Jason Bayda reported that police received a call for assistance after a man was found unresponsive in the lake at approximately 4:42 p.m. on June 29.

Bayda said the man was in shallow water playing with his child at Nk’Mip RV Park. At some point the child was observed alone without the father.

Friends and family quickly located the man who was unresponsive in the water.

“Life saving measures were initiated by his friends and others in the area and continued by first responders. Sadly, he passed away,” Bayda said.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating the unexpected death in an effort to determine how, where, when and by what means the man died. Due to the privacy of the deceased, his name will not be released.
