(OSOYOOS TIMES — August 16, 2006) —
The spirit of Osoyoos people continues to shine through in so many ways. Some weeks, like this past one, the number and quality of the activities by locals is overwhelming. Here are a few examples:

For the seventh year, the Osoyoos Desert Society put on its lovely Romancing the Desert evening “ a cultured blend of fine food, wine and a glimpse of the desert ecology that makes our area so unique. What a nice addition to the range of activities offered to tourists and Osoyoos folk. Kudos to the Desert Society for their efforts in staging this classy affair.

The Osoyoos Golf and Country Club put on a gala day Saturday to herald its new nine holes that fill out a 'Desert Gold' 18 hole course at the now-36-hole Club. The efforts of many “ from Club founders like Chuck Emery through to Town leaders “ were recognized. The inspired work of so many has produced for Osoyoos one of the finest golf destinations in B.C. “ and we should all feel very lucky and appreciative.

Last Tuesday a cultural night was held at the beautiful new Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre. We were reminded again of the rich addition that this new facility makes to our community and also the integral part that the Osoyoos Indian culture plays in our South Okanagan society. Enjoyable events like this, along with other cultural and nature activities, are a treat for all.

Kudos to the Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club for getting its long-desired rescue boat. They've done a valuable service for the community and made our lake a bit safer for all.

And there were so many other examples this week, too “ from the Dairy Queen's help for Children's Miracle Network, to Home Hardware's second Summer Street Dance. The list goes on and on!
