Funding announcement just confirms increased profile

The news just keeps getting better for Osoyoos.
Last Thursday Premier Gordon Campbell made a major tourism funding announcement.
The government has committed to spending $14 million to support regional tourism. However, that wasn't the best part, at least for Osoyoos.
The premier also committed to spending some $2 million to build a new tourist centre here in Osoyoos.
The centre will be built at the same location as it is currently.
This announcement is significant for a couple of reasons.
The first, and most important, is that Osoyoos is a key welcoming point to Americans as they travel across the border into B.C. and into Canada.
Osoyoos was definitely in need of a new centre. With the explosion of growth happening in this community, a first class tourist centre only makes sense.
It is just one piece of the puzzle in making Osoyoos a major tourist destination.
The other significant aspect of this announcement is that it came during a major event by Tourism Vancouver, in which its new brand was announced. For Osoyoos to be included during such an important event shows how much larger the profile of this community has become.
And that should only continue to increase as the 2010 Winter Olympics draw nearer. Osoyoos is in a perfect position to capitalize on the increased tourism exposure the Olympics will bring.
And the announcement of a new tourist centre only confirms that increased profile and opportunity.
