The Apex Community Association (ACA) is hosting the South Okanagan’s first drive-in theatre event in decades.
The group is hosting a triple-bill drive-in theatre event at 7:30 p.m. (films roll at 8:30 p.m.) on Saturday, Aug.22 at Apex Resort’s main village parking lot.
The ACA organized the event as a fundraiser for the association, in order to support, promote and provide community arts, culture and outdoor recreation activities at the resort.
With the help of Outsidecinema.ca, out of Kelowna, the ACA will be presenting three outdoor-recreation inspired “edutainment” films:
“Fifty” – Chronicles Summerland local Erick Thompson’s 50-mile run on HBC Brigade Trail, which winds through the Cascades Mountains backcountry from Tulameen to Hope. (15 min.)
“Klunkerz” – The definitive film about the roots of mountain biking. Its cast-list reads like the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame; Joe Breeze, Gary Fisher, Charlie Kelly, Mike Sinyard and Tom Richie. (1:24min.)
“Dirtbag” – Hailed as one of the most prolific and influential climbers of all time, Fred Beckey has become a cult hero in the outdoor world. Eschewing fame, sponsors and family life so his only obligation would be the next summit, this rebel athlete conquered more unclimbed peaks than anyone in history during his 80-year career, staying myopically focused on the mountains until age 94. (1:35 min.)
“The Apex Community Association invites you to join us for a memorable evening of film, in the beautiful sub-alpine setting of Apex Resort. You may wish to hike, bike or trail-run the surrounding mountains, or paddle beautiful Nickelplate Lake in the hours before this event, making a family day of it,” reads a press release from the ACA.
The event will include organic pre-bagged popcorn available during intermission. Bring your own non-alcoholic beverages. Access to an FM tuner (98.5FM) is required to enjoy the soundtrack.
Online Ticket Sales are via eventbrite.ca – once there, search for the event by the phrase: Apex Community – or search Facebook for the Apex Community Association site, where event-goers can access a direct link to ticket sales. Ticket prices are $25 for couples or fill the car for $40.
With only 50 tickets being sold due to COVID-19 restrictions, every spot will offer excellent audio and video. Tickets are reportedly selling fast.
