The shoplifter caught on surveillance camera stealing two items from Double O Bikes on the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 6 has been arrested after widespread sharing of his image.

Osoyoos RCMP commander Sgt. Jason Bayda said the individual was picked up on an outstanding warrant from the Lower Mainland and it was then realized that he fit the description of the shoplifter.

The Main St. bike shop originally posted the incident and image on Facebook, commenting: “Aren’t we all just so fed up with this? Ugh!!!”

The individual had not yet been charged when Times Chronicle spoke to the RCMP on Wednesday morning. He was scheduled for a court appearance in Penticton on Wednesday afternoon with Bayda noting that the judge will decide whether he should remain in custody or not.

The individual has been residing in Osoyoos for the last few months, he added.

Bayda also said the individual is not the same suspect wanted in connection with the Osoyoos CIBC bank robbery which took place on Monday, Dec. 5.

The RCMP has released an image of the suspect and is appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying him.
