Rotary Beach is “going to the dogs” for three hours next month.

On Friday, Sept. 9 from 3-6 p.m., residents will be free to allow their pets to romp around and swim in Tucelnuit Lake as part of the annual “Doggy Swim” hosted by Oliver Parks and Recreation.

Interim recreation manager Natalie Korsovetski told Oliver council on Monday that they want to change the venue this year. The swim is normally held in the community pool, but she said the event is a “strain” on pool maintenance and staff.

The Town’s animal control bylaw prohibits dogs on Rotary Beach from May 1 to September 30. But Korsovetski asked council to waive this rule for one day.

Council approved the request.
