The Oliver Fire Department (OFD) was called to a report of a grass fire along the Okanagan River canal near Road 22 in the evening of Monday, June 9.

A passerby managed to get the fire extinguisher, and crews responded to ensure there was no smouldering fire, the OFD said in a social media post.

The size was estimated to be about 6×12 metres in size with the cause believed to be a discarded cigarette.

“We want to remind the public to be careful and dispose of smoking materials appropriately and wisely,” the OFD said.
