Osoyoos’ annual Desert Dip saw 110 people of all ages register for the dip, braving the 0°C air temperature and chilly waters of Osoyoos Lake at Gyro Park beach on Wed. Jan. 1, 2025.

The now annual event is organized by the Osoyoos Festival Society and has evolved in the few years of its existence to include a beach bonfire and warming tent for participants.

The Osoyoos Festival Society raised $75 along with food items for the Osoyoos Food Bank.

Society president Ken Baker said the age range spanned from four year olds, to three over- 80 with the oldest being Norma Klein who braved the cold at age 89.

The local crowd was joined by dippers from as far as Ontario, Calgary, Oroville, Saskatchewan, along with many from the lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
