Like a phoenix from the ashes, Crucetti’s Restaurant will rise again.

Owner Mark Crucetti is hoping that will be before the busy season arrives. The restaurant has been serving up country breakfasts for nearly 30 years, but the smell of biscuits and bacon has been missing since a bad fire last fall.

Three decades worth of memories built on family, friends, and food went up in smoke earlier this year. The Main Street establishment sustained heavy smoke and water damage after a fire broke out in a small area behind the kitchen.

According to Crucetti the fire allegedly started when a bucket of rags ignited. The cause of the fire is still unknown but has been deemed “accidental.”

In the meantime major renovations to the restaurant are underway and Crucetti said he’s looking forward to getting his business “up and running” again.

“At the moment the place is completely gutted. We’re redoing everything,” he said.

“We’re getting new booths, new floors and ceilings . . . .everything. We’re also upgrading the washrooms so they’re handicap accessible.”

He said he is unsure of how long the construction will take but he is hoping to reopen before June. Additionally, Crucetti said he will be making some changes to the menu to “freshen it up.”

Linda MacDermid, property manager for Anthem Properties, said she’s anxious to see the restaurant reopen. “As landlords, we’re behind them completely,” said MacDermid.

“The Crucetti’s are a strong, local family and they’re about to open what is basically  a brand new restaurant. Oliver needs this.”
