The Osoyoos Coyotes made their moms proud on Friday night.

This weekend was the team’s Parents Weekend, and players’ families were in town and attended Friday’s game against the Princeton Posse, where the Coyotes claimed a 4-0 win.

The home-ice match was the first win after eight losses for the Coyotes.

The game was “a solid performance by a group that was determined to stop the losing streak,” coach Mark Chase said.

“Our group was relentless in their pursuit of success.”

Tyler Badger started off the night with a power play goal in the first period.

Lately, the team has adopted a habit of falling behind in second periods, but Brock Marple and Wyatt Wong brought in two goals during the second frame and the team managed to keep Princeton from gaining any.

The team’s goal was to narrow the Posse’s shots on goal to one or less during the first and last 2.5 minutes of each period, while making at least three shots of their own, Chase said.

“Striving to achieve these goals created a motivated and driven group.”

Marple also scored the team’s fourth point at the start of the third period, securing the team’s four point win.

The Coyotes dominated the puck for most of the game, finishing with 51 shots on goal, while the Posse had 23.

However, the team was not able to sustain the momentum and on Sunday they played the North Okanagan Knights and suffered a 5-1 loss.

The Knights started off each period with a goal, and the Coyotes first and only goal by Brock Marple didn’t come until seven minutes into the third frame.

The Knights managed to net two more before the game was over.

However, the Knights only out shot the Coyotes by four (34-30).

On Saturday, the Coyotes take on the Kamloops Storm at 7:35 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena.
