Dear Editor:

My wife and I were wondering if you would publish this in your newspaper.

It was really great how so many people in Osoyoos were so kind and helpful during a stressful time for us, and we’d love to let them know that we really appreciated it.

While passing through your town on May 27 of this year, the rental truck we were moving with broke down.

While it was a rather awful situation, the people of Osoyoos really stepped up and we got through the difficult experience with much to be thankful for. We would like to thank some of those people who so kindly helped us out.

Thank you to the local RCMP for coming to direct traffic around our broken down vehicle and for arranging to get our truck pulled off to the side of Main Street. You kept things under control, and did so with great calm.

To the tow truck driver who helped us, we would like to thank you for getting our truck and trailer pulled off to the side of the road.

To the guy in the blue pickup truck, thank you for offering information about towing companies that might be of assistance to us and for returning again later to offer us a place to stay if we needed it.

To the lady working at the nearby restaurant, thank you for running a pizza over to me while I sat in the truck.

To Gene Lockerby, the local U-Haul agent, thank you for coming to help us way after office hours. With your help, we got the truck up to your store, you arranged transportation to the motel and you helped make arrangements for our cargo to be transferred into a properly working truck the next day.

To the local resident named George, thank you for working in the blazing morning heat to get our possessions transferred into the new truck the next day.

To Kevin (or as my wife calls him, our Osoyoos Angel), we particularly thank you. You came to our aid, well above and beyond the call of duty.

You brought us wheel blocks to keep the truck from rolling back down the hill. You helped us unload our car from the trailer, so that my wife could get to the motel. You helped transfer the cargo from our truck to a new U-Haul truck. You picked us up at the hotel and drove us up to the U-Haul agency. You, sir, are a one of a kind individual, and we think you deserve a medal or an award of some type.

And finally, to the citizens of Osoyoos. Thank you for your kindness. We encountered a lot of good people that day.

And not so much as an angry glare was directed at us, despite our broken down truck blocking one side of Main Street during afternoon rush hour.

We will remember your town as a much-needed oasis during a rough journey.

Thanks again.
