The details have been hashed out, and the contract is ready – it looks like Osoyoos will once again have a Junior B Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) team.
The new team – which is going to be called the Osoyoos Coyotes – is expected to be up and running for the 2010/2011 season, said Coun. Margaret Chadsey at the regular open council meeting on Nov. 2.
Council looked at a draft agreement to be signed with Osoyoos Junior Hockey Inc., the company working to bring the team to town.
The agreement will cover the use of the Sun Bowl Arena, including the ice, change rooms, concession and parking for the team for a five-year period.
Councillors made a few wording changes to the contract prior to unanimously agreeing to go ahead with the signing.
Council clarified the team will have to pay $400 per game played at the arena and for that fee will also get access to 7.5 hours of practice time per week.
If the team wants more, it will have to pay more in accordance with the Town’s standard fees and charges bylaw.
Council also re-worded some terms that will allow the Town to cancel the contract if necessary.
“I’m a proponent of strong exit clauses myself,” said Mayor Stu Wells.
Council amended the contract to allow the team two opportunities to remedy any issues that come up regarding any breaking of the contract, but will cancel the arrangement without recourse upon a third offense.
