After some delay, construction has begun on the new Dairy Queen development in Oliver.

An excavator has been clearing the land in preparation for building the two-storey fast-food restaurant at 6422 Main Street on the corner of Veterans Avenue.

Randy Houle, director of development services for the Town of Oliver, said a building permit was recently issued.

“The first step (now) is excavation, ie land clearing and prep,” he said.

The development will consist of a 60-seat drive-thru restaurant on the bottom floor and four residential apartment units on the top floor. Houle said there is also an additional 1,600 square-foot commercial retail space being developed as part of the building.

“No word on the tenant yet.”
