A single vehicle accident Friday evening about 7:35 p.m. has resulted in a power outage for over 1,000 FortisBC customers from the area around Tucelnuit Lake northwards.

The vehicle hit a power pole on Tucelnuit Drive with emergency services arriving shortly after the collision. An eyewitness living in the area said an injured woman who was trapped in the car appeared to have sustained possibly serious injuries.

Local resident Craig Lindsay expressed the frustration of many who live in the area around the problem of speeding along the road although it’s not clear what the circumstances are in this particular case.

The estimated time of power restoration for 248 customers clustered just north of Tucelnuit Lake is 9:45 p.m. while the larger area where 902 customers are located has no restoration time listed.

Power was restored around 10:10 p.m.
