Firefighters with air support prevented a car fire from turning into a blazing grass fire west of Osoyoos on Saturday night.
A car erupted in flames on Highway 3 approximately six kilometres west of Spotted Lake after 6 p.m. on July 17. At one point a helicopter dropped a bucket of water on the area to help firefighters prevent the fire from spreading.
Osoyoos RCMP Sgt. Jason Bayda said police received the call at 6:41 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 3 and the Mt. Kobau lookout road.
“A 2008 Mercedes was travelling toward Osoyoos when the vehicle overheated and then caught fire,” Bayda said. He noted the flames started to spread to the surrounding bush but were extinguished by BC Wildfire Service crews.
Bayda said there were no injuries in the incident.
