Editor:
The people move here because it is so beautiful with orchards and vineyards all around us.
Then they try to change the work practices of us farmers.
Cannons are used here to help us protect the fruit crop.
Birds come in huge flocks when the fruit is ripening.
We use netting, strips and cannons, all of which are not enough to protect the crop.
There are huge losses to us because of bird damage.
Seven weeks of noise is still better than poison to kill the birds.
These are environmental solutions to our problems.
So, please, if a little bit of noise bothers you, move somewhere else.

TOURIST UNSETTLED BY PROPANE CANNONS
Editor:
We are back in Vancouver after our week-long vacation was cut short (by five days!)
Propane cannons woke us up at 5:45 a.m. two mornings in a row while staying on Lakeshore Drive.
Enough is enough – we came back to the city to get some peace and quiet.
Those things are loud!
Heart attack loud!
There has to be a better way to scare birds – especially close to tourist areas.
