The Okanagan Boys and Girls Club of Oliver recently received funding from Embrace BC to hold a one-day youth summit for youth aged 13-19.
The goal of this summit, which will be facilitated by special guest Jorge Salazar, is to bring youth from different cultures and backgrounds together to talk about social issues that affect them.
The youth summit in Oliver represents the first step in bringing together youth and members of the broader community from diverse groups. The group will identify issues and develop practical solutions to increase the appreciation and awareness of differing cultures and beliefs – with the goal of reducing racism and promoting multiculturalism in the community.
The club is also partnering with members from the Osoyoos Indian Band, Southern Okanagan Secondary School, Oliver Parks and Recreation, and the South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services for the summit.
The summit will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 10 am to 4 pm at Oliver Parks and Recreation in rooms one and two. Snacks, drinks and lunch will be provided, and transportation is available for those who need it. There will also be door prizes for those who participate in this free event.
If you know of a youth who would be interested, please have them contact Laurene Sloboda at 250-498-8844, or via email at [email protected]
