BC RCMP Appreciation Day idea supported
By the time February 1 rolls around next year, the date could be recognized as RCMP Appreciation Day in B.C.
On February 1 in 1920 the Northwest Mounted Police and Dominion Police joined to create the RCMP, and a Vernon-based committee is advocating commemorating the 100th year with the creation of an RCMP Appreciation Day.
In a letter presented to Osoyoos town council last week, the committee, formed of Vernon residents, asked council for a letter of support to bring to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.
The day will “honour and recognize the men and women of the RCMP for their dedication and service,” committee chair Martin von Holst wrote.
Council unanimously voted to support the initiative.
