TOWN, BAND FINALIZE BOUNDARY EXCHANGE AGREEMENT

The Town of Osoyoos and the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) have now officially signed an agreement to exchange some land for new roads, and it’s an agreement that brings the OIB one step closer to changing their boundaries and expanding their reserve.
“(Yes, it will be) a loss of land off our tax rolls,” said Osoyoos Mayor Stu Wells about the three lots that will eventually be considered band land instead of Town land.

COUNCIL GIVES OK TO LEASE FOR KIJHL TEAM

The details have been hashed out, and the contract is ready – it looks like Osoyoos will once again have a Junior B Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) team.
The new team – which is going to be called the Osoyoos Coyotes – is expected to be up and running for the 2010/2011 season, said Coun. Margaret Chadsey at the regular open council meeting on Nov. 2.

NEW AGREEMENT FOR FRUIT COOPERATIVE WORKERS INCLUDES WEEKEND SHIFTS, REDUCED PAY FOR NEW EMPLOYEES

A decision has been handed down by an arbitrator, settling some of the outstanding matters between the Okanagan Tree Fruit Cooperative (OTFC) and its employees.
The company’s employees are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), Local 247.
Details of the decision handed down on Oct. 27 by arbitrator Mark Atkinson, from the Labour Relations Board of B.C., were posted on the UFCW website.
