HARASSMENT SUIT FILED AGAINST TRIO OF LOCAL MOUNTIES

Two former members of the Osoyoos-Oliver RCMP detachment who are married are suing a trio of local Mounties over alleged harassment and intimidation on the job in 2008.
Jason and Sasha MacLean, who joined the Osoyoos-Oliver RCMP in 2003 and 2004 respectively, filed the suit against Staff Sgt. Kurt Lozinski, commander of the local detachment, Sgt. Kevin Schur and Cpl. Michael Field in British Columbia Supreme Court on Sept. 8.

BAND VOTES IN FAVOUR OF GRANTING LEASES TO DEVELOPERS OF PROPOSED HOUSING PROJECT

The majority of Osoyoos Indian Band members who participated in a Sept. 16 referendum concerning a proposed housing project voted in favour of granting a Chilliwack-based developer two 99-year leases for properties on the reserve.
The Van Maren Group of Companies plans to build roughly 300 detached homes on 28 hectares of land owned by Jane Stelkia and Modesta Betterton off of Inkameep Road at the head of Osoyoos Lake.

POLICIES ALLOWING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF OASIS DEVELOPMENT GET SECOND AND THIRD READINGS

The proposed Oasis medical-commercial-residential development moved ahead one more step on Sept. 20 when Osoyoos council gave second and third readings to bylaws that are necessary for the project to proceed.
“It’s not often you go to a public hearing where the majority of people are in favour of the project,” said Coun. Ted Cronmiller, adding he was “amazed” at the response from people who spoke out at the hearing for the development held at the Sonora Community Centre on Sept. 7.

When nine-year-old Kaleb Mailey got home from school on Sept. 16, he had a huge surprise waiting for him.
“I freaked out because I was so happy,” he said.
