HATCHET ATTACKER CONVICTED

The man who swung an axe at former Osoyoos councillor Allan Carswell one year ago was found guilty on Sept. 29 of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Carswell was winterizing his boat with his wife at the Haynes Point Provincial Park boat launch on Sept. 22, 2009, when Louis Joseph Lemay, 51, approached him and swung an axe at him.

STOLEN VAN FOUND AT BOTTOM OF PEANUT LAKE

A red Dodge Caravan that turned up in Peanut Lake on the morning of Oct. 4 had been stolen the night before, said Osoyoos RCMP Const. Kelly Baker at the scene.
Osoyoos Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rick Jones was called to the scene at about 10:30 a.m. where there was a barely-visible red hue in the middle of the south end of the lake.

YOUNG LOCAL LIBERAL SUPPORTER WON’T APOLOGIZE FOR TWITTER COMMENT

The Fight HST organization is asking for a young supporter of the B.C. Liberals living in Osoyoos to apologize for a recent tweet that compared Fight HST leader Bill Vander Zalm to deceased pop star Michael Jackson.
Zach Poturica, 21, posted a comment on his Twitter account on Sept. 29 stating that “Vander Zalm to politics is what Michael Jackson was to children, a lost (and) confused person with an amusement park.”

ONLY LAGOON PHASE OF MARINA TO BE CONSTRUCTED FOR NOW

The proposed Lions Bay marina may only include boat slips in the lagoon next to the Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club and not the planned F-docks.
At a closed meeting on Sept. 9, Osoyoos council “committed to only constructing the first phase of 32 slips to ensure cleanup of the lagoon and guarantee 16 slips for (Osoyoos Shoreline Development) customers,” states a semi-annual report from Alain Cunningham, the Town’s planning and development services director.
